The 35th ‘Sounds of the North’ Festival
will take place on 1-3 October 2020.
See you soon online and in the St. John’s Centre!
The “Sounds of the North” Festival has traditionally been held every two years, at the beginning of July. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to make some significant changes: postpone the event until autumn and not to organise any workshops or dances or, above all, any concerts by foreign performers.
However, every restriction may offer an opportunity… So this year’s Festival is devoted entirely to Polish music. The concerts held in St. John’s Centre Gdańsk will be an opportunity to see and hear – as usual at the “Sounds of the North” – the leading Polish performers of traditional and folk music, as well as interesting new arrivals and phenomena of the recent months. The idea behind the Festival is to show the musical tradition in a lively and contemporary form. So we have invited artists who are closer to the in crudo movement as well as those who reinterpret tradition through a filter of other genres, such as jazz or improvised music.
All the concerts will be held in St. John’s Centre. A new feature will be on-line broadcasts due to the requirement to limit the number of audience in the venue.
See you on 1-3rd October in St. John’s Centre in Gdańsk!
