29th FESTIVAL OF MUSIC INSPIRED BY FOLKLORE “SOUNDS OF THE NORTH”

29 july – 02 august 2008

The main idea behind the 29th edition of the Festival was to present regions rather than individual countries, as in earlier editions. Although their boundaries do not always coincide with state borders, as in the case of Karelia (Finland/Russia) or Lapland (Norway/Russia/Sweden/Finland), the regions themselves are quite characteristic and homogeneous. In addition, the formula of the Festival was extended this year. Beside folk music concerts played, as always, in St. John’s Centre in Gdańsk, there were also traditional Danish, Estonian and Swedish dance workshops and a performance by artists of the Sami Beaivvas theatre.
Baltic Traditional Dance Workshops ”Sounds of the North” with the participation of instructors – musicians and dancers – from Denmark, Sweden and Estonia.

Performers:
HABADEKUK (Funen/Denmark)
WARSAW VILLAGE BAND(Mazovia, Podlachia/Poland)
TORGEIR VASSVIK (Lapland/Norway)
RO:TORO (East Estonia)
