Founded by Paweł Szamburski (clarinet), Tomasz Pokrzywiński (cello) and Michał Górczyński (contrabass clarinet). The artists make a brave attempt to reinterpret early music and create their own, unique sound language on its basis. Centuries-old chorales, motets and litanies are merely starting points for improvisation and new compositions;

rich counterpoint of early polyphony implodes into minimalism.

By improvising around archaic melodies, composing and arranging new music on their basis, the musicians build a bridge linking distant musical worlds to reach their universal spiritual dimension. The music of Bastarda is a contemporary, original and very personal message supported by rich musical traditions.

Bastarda has released three albums to date: “Promitat eterno”, drawing on the medieval music by Petrus Wilhelmi de Grudencz (1392–ca. 1480), “Ars moriendi”, devoted to the subject of death and funeral ceremonies, and “Nigunim”, an album devoted to the mystical Hasidic songs of the 18th and 19th centuries.
